New song that I REALLY like: "Arise" by Shane & Shane (on their new album "An Evening with Shane & Shane")
Arise (arise)
And awaken
He is King (He is King)
He is King
Arise (arise)
My soul Awaken
All flesh is grass
Surely is fading (surely is fading fast)
Oh soon it's all gone
And we'll fly away
Oh soon it's gone, it's gone
Oh You are the Maker
The life sustainer (life sustainer) and everything comes
Everything goes
When You give the Word Have mercy oh Lord
And satisfy (satisfy) we will all arise
Arise My soul awaken
That I might sing (I might sing)
And be happy all my days
How long (satisfy) will there be mourning
Return to us (return Lord Jesus)
Return to us
Oh soon it's all gone and we'll fly away
Oh soon it's gone, it's gone
Teach me to number my days
At the most 80 years
Who cares about meaningless things
I do and I care about art too and I care about yahoo
Things that are fleeting and Fading away
Awaken my soul
Awaken my soul
Aside from being a VERY catchy little tune (one of which I made up some VERY interesting lyrics to before today), it's a gentle reminder that I need to focus more on things that really matter in life. No, I don't really care about Yahoo...but I do care about gmail.com and blogs galore and 24 and American Idol and making things that are so cute that I can't stand it and window shopping and hanging out with some fun people. Those things are all fading away and can/will be taken away at a moments notice. I need to care less about those things and care more about my relationship with Christ...my time spent daily in the Word...my soul being completely "awake". Thanks, Shane & Shane for constant reminders to grow and grow...even when we can't understand all the words!

Not Catching Up/Mad Music Monday 4.17.06
So in my last post, I decided it was time to get the blogging ball rolling again. I got caught up...only to not make a single post for 10 more days. I think that it would take me hours to get caught up on everything that I haven't posted about in the past week and a half. So I will give an abridged version follwed by my first real Mad Music Monday in quite a while.
*I have been working my tail off to try and get bags and burp cloths and bibs and blankets made for my first retail outing. I am going tomorrow with Lanise to 6-7 retailers in the area who will (insert a prayer here) buy my products on a monthly/bi-monthly basis. PLEASE PRAY FOR GOD TO PROVIDE!!!
*My step-brother, Kevin, got married on Saturday to Sarah from Kansas and they are on a cruise to the Bahamas right now...I am jealous.
*My brother is coming home from Afghanistan this week!!!! He was supposed to be here on Thursday...but his ETA is now Friday...before the week is out, it will be sometime next week. Gotta love the Army!
*There has been about 90% too much drama in my life this past week, and I realize that I really don't like it.
*God love those customer care folks who have to answer phones at companies. I have spent approximately 3 hours on the phone calling back and forth between 2 companies for the past week trying to get a debit card issue fixed. "There's nothing we can do to help you...please call the folks at Check Care." "I'm sorry Sar-I (after I told her 3 times that my name was just Sarai and that I was about 100% sure that my name wasn't Sandra), but you will have to clear all this up with the folks at Electrum." Are you kidding me?!?!?! What a nightmare!
And now for a long awaited Mad Music Monday 4.17.06
CD I like to listen to: Rascal Flatts "Me & My Gang"
My good friend, Brooke, saved me some birthday money and gave me this CD. I really do like it a lot. And even though I don't like that "When you play a country song backwards" song, sometimes I find it stuck in my head. As of now, my favorite song on the album is "What Hurts" the Most", but I looking forward to learning and loving more of these songs!

It's time to catch up (not ketchup!)
I will now attempt to blog for the days I have missed in one fell swoop. Here it goes:
Mad Music Monday
Music I am liking: "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts
This is a song on their new CD (which I hope to purchase with my birthday money-woohoo!). I am a huge fan of those guys, and this song is stuck in my head right now.
Tell All Tuesday
I have a bad habit of really making fun of people who have REALLY bad grammar. I know that mine isn't perfect all that time, but it's better than most who were born and raised in the mountains of WNC. After all, I'm not the one telling people I am going to "shower them with recantations" or saying "just calling to see how you was doing". My biggest southern downfall happens when I am around my family for more than 2 hours...then the southern drawl comes back in full swing...but at least the worst thing that comes out of my mouth is "youns"!
And now for the Wacky Wednesday Tag
(ps-I love that this wasn't an original blogging theme, but Maleah has helped it to become a regular!)
1. Assuming you have a DVD player and a show you used to enjoy becomes available on DVD...what is the deciding factor on whether or not you'll actually buy it?
Well, I only have one season of one show (The Golden Girls) and that is because I got it as a gift (thanks, Brooke!). However, there are 2 shows I would probably buy on DVD (provided that I had the money): 24 and FRIENDS.
2. If you were in charge of the FCC, which of the following would be your priority when it comes to decency on the airwaves: cutting down on violence, sex or profanity?
Everyone of them would have to go eventually, but I might say that I would go with profanity first. After all, I can't imagine seeing a movie with a really great scene where a guy is about to kill another guy and has to say "Oh darn you, you piece of poo. I will kill your hiney."...cutting out on the bad words might change it all up just a bit!
3. One of those crazy remodeling shows appears at your door one day and offers to redo any room of your house or apartment for free, but that it can only be one single room that gets a makeover. Would you let them in, and if so, which room would you choose and why?
I would let them in, and I would put them to work in the living room. It's now serving as a living room/craft room. It's length and width are not proportional to each other, which makes it hard to lay out a floor plan for all the furniture. Plus, we really need a new couch, and that would be a good way to get one! And, hopefully, I would get a really cool craft area!
OK...I am officially caught up with my blogging...but with the craziness of this week, don't expect it to last very long!

Mad Music Monday 3.20.06
Seems like Mondays are becoming my serious somber writing days, but there's a lot on my mind these days, and it seems like music is what is triggering/helping me through these thoughts. I don't know how long this will last, so bear with me.
I am preparing, today, to attend the visitation at a local funeral home for Sgt. Kevin Akins, one of the soldiers who was killed by a roadside bomb last Sunday in Afghanistan. He was a member of the 391st with my brother, Joseph. This is not the way I want to spend my Monday night, or any night for that matter, but I have to keep telling myself that this is not the way his family wants to spend tonight, either. The other fallen soldiers have been returned to their homes as of last night, and their families are preparing for funerals and burials later this week as well. Please continue to pray for these famlies as this process for a funeral for their loved one is finally taking place. It's been a week since they heard the news that their soldier's homecoming would not be as they had planned, and now they can give them a proper funeral and burial. Today's song is a song that I have clung to this week. I hadn't heard it until I started listening to The Fish on XM radio, and immediatly knew I liked it. It is my hope and prayer that the families of these soldiers will cling to this promise. Please don't forget to pray for them, and the soldiers who are still in Afghanistan completing their mission.
Cry Out To Jesus-by Third Day
To everyone who's lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
When you said goodbye
And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there's nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right
There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus
For the marriage that's struggling just to hang on
They lost all of their faith in love
They've done all they can to make it right again
Still it's not enough
For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains
You try to give up but you come back again
Just remember that you're not alone in your shame
And your suffering
When your lonely
And it feels like the whole world is falling on you
You just reach out, you just cry out to Jesus
Cry to Jesus
To the widow who struggles with being alone
Wiping the tears from her eyes
For the children around the world without a home
Say a prayer tonight

Mad Music Monday 3.13.06...and other thoughts
First of all, here's an update on mine and Marty's sickly condition: I am feeling MUCH better. Marty is still a little nauseous and doesn't have much of an appetite. However, I think that Duke's 16th ACC Tournament Title (which now tops Carolina's 15 ACC Tourney Titles) and then Duke getting first seed in the Atlanta region for March Madness made him feel better, if only for a little while! Hopefully, he will get to rest a little this week during his Spring Break, and will soon feel better.
I am writing this Mad Music Monday with mixed emotions...I want to cry...I want to smile. This day has been an incredibly emotional day for me, and it's been from one extreme to the other. First of all, I made plans with Brooke to meet her in Hickory tonight for dinner, which made me happy from the moment I woke up this morning. Then, I got home from running some errands with Marty and got a package in the mail from Lori that contained 2 of my favorite things: CUTE stationery and REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER EGGS...IN WHITE AND MILK CHOCOLATE!!! Yes, all those things together made this girl SUPER happy.
But then there's the part when things are not so happy. At this very moment, my heart is breaking in two for people don't even know. I got a call this morning from my brother's fiance who had news that 4 members of my brother's troop were killed in a roadside bomb yesterday. She immediately assured me that Joseph was ok, which was a huge relief, but along with that comes the feeling of guilt. How can I be so relieved to find out that Joseph's ok when 4 different families are going through extreme shock, and grief and pain right now? And then she told me some of their stories: One was a guy who lives in the same county as Marty and I. One guy was a medic who had been working with the 391st during their tour in Afghanistan. One was a fellow soldier who had been assigned to complete some tasks with the 391st. And, the story that hit a little closer than the others. The other soldier is the husband of one of Staci's (my brother's fiance) high school friends. They have a little girl who turned 2 last week. This 23 year old woman has another child from her first marriage, which ended because of her husband's death. So here she is: 23, 2 kids, widowed twice. The fact that he and my brother were friends and that Staci and she were friends makes it all a little more real than I would have ever hoped it to be. I can't imagine what that poor girl is going through today. Knowing that yesterday, she had a number on her calendar representing the number of days until she got to see her husband again. Knowing that this morning her world was turned upside down when she opened her door to find 2 army officers standing there with the worst news she could imagine. My heart breaks. It breaks because I know that it could have been Joseph. It breaks because those little kids are both going to have to grow up without a dad. It breaks because she is living my biggest fear...death of a loved one...for the second time. It breaks because I know I don't pray enough for those soldiers who are over there fighting for our freedom. It breaks because it hit too close to home.
After Joseph signed on with the military, his favorite song became "American Soldier" by Toby Keith, which is my Mad Music Monday selection, in honor of the 391st and in memory of those who have made such a huge sacrifice for our country. Joseph always has been a shower singer, and I remember many times when he would put that particular cd in, put that song on repeat, turn it up FULL BLAST, and then sing at the top of his lungs for a good 20 minutes. Even though I had heard him sing it a hundred times, I had never really listened to the words. So, here they are. Read them. REALLY read them and take it in. And then please, please say a pray for those guys who are planning to make the trip back to the US in a month. And then say a prayer for the families of those who are coming back much sooner than they had planned.
American Soldier-By Toby Keith
I'm just tryin to be a father, raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother everything to everyone
Up and at em bright and early, I'm all business in my suit
Yeah I'm dressed up for success, from my head down to my boots
I don't do it for money, there's bills I that I can't payI don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway
Providing for our future's, my responsibility Yeah
I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be
And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekend's been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays, and sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready, when the wolf growls at the door
Hey I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core.
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh and I don't want to die for you, but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor, cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an American Soldier an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight
I'm an American Soldier, I'm an American.

Music I Listened To This Week: Justin Timberlake
Yes, I own the "Justified" album (please note, that I didn't purchase it myself, but got it from a friend who was putting it in a yard sale!) and yes, I listen to it ocassionally. I don't exactly agree with everything he portrays to the media and I never thought I would like the album, but I really do. There are several fun songs on the CD, like "Senorita" and that infamous song he and Janet sang at the Super Bowl, and then there's the Britney song "Cry Me A River". It's a fun road trip CD (but what would I know...it's not like I ever drive anywhere!!!!). It's way to dance in the car with! I never owned an N'Sync CD, so I guess this is my ex-boyband-er fix! One thing I do know for sure is that the boy can sing!

Music I heard today that made me smile: "That Thing You Do" (from "That Thing You Do" Soundtrack)
From the moment I first saw that movie, I loved it! I am all about watching a movie that revolves around fun music, be it a musical or not. This is definitely one of thos movies that makes you want to get up and dance....you know, with the moves straight out of American Bandstand-the 1952 edition. My favorite character from the movie is the drummer, Guy "Shades" Patterson played by Tom Everett Scott...he's soooo dreamy. :) This movie and soundtrack get MAJOR thumbs up from me. You-oo-oo...doing that thing you do-oo-oo...Breakin' my heart into a million pieces..Like you always do-oo-oo-oo. Too much fun!

Music I like: Moulin Rouge Soundtrack
My friend Beth introduced me to Moulin Rouge several years ago, and I immediately fell in love with the music. I have always been a musical junkie. I don't know why, but the love story and the music just seemed to attach itself to my heart and I love it! My favorite song from the movie is "Come What May". It's a duet between Ewan McGregor's character and Nicole Kidman's character. For the entire movie, they have to hid their feelings from everyone and this song is their way of saying that they will always love each other, no matter what other people say or do to try and tear them apart.
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you
And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may weather and stars may collide
But I'll love you, I'll love you until the end of time
Come what may
Come what may
I will love you
Until my dying day
It's just one of those songs that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside :) and it's my song pick of the day!

Music I'm Diggin': "Amazed" by Ross Parsley
I was introduced to this song by our worship pastor at church. When I really think about the way God loves me, I am reminded of how I love other people. It's incredible to think that as much as I can love someone...my husband, my family, my friends...God loves me sooooo much more than that. The lyrics focus on the things that God is constantly doing to prove His love for us (dancing around us, singing over ue) and yet we go about daily lives as if it never happens. Once I stop and think about the wonder of His love, it really makes me think...and I AM amazed at the love He has for me.
"Amazed"
You dance over me
While I am unaware
You sing all around
But I never hear the sound
Lord, I'm amazed by You
Lord, I'm amazed by You
Lord, I'm amazed by You
How You love me
How wide
How deep
How great
Is Your love for me

Music I can't get out of my head: No One Mourns the Wicked (from the Wicked soundtrack)
I've never read the book, never seen the musical, and until a week or so ago had never listened to the soundtrack. Now, it's on repeat in my car. The first song on the album is this song that I can't get out of my head...and not only can I not get it out of my head, I don't know all the words. "No one mourns the wicked...no one cries they won't return...no one lays a lilly on their grave"...and that's all I know...of a 4 minute song. I am going to see the musical in Atlanta in May (with two of my stinkin' awesome friends :) ) and I have until then to know all the words and read the book. (P.S. Wicked is the Wizard of Oz story as the Wicked Witch of the West's story...sneaky twist and super fun!)

Music I'm diggin: LeCrae
LeCrae's album Real Talk rocks my face off. It is so hard to find good Christian hip-hop...you know the kind that doesn't sound like 1983 clubbin' music. The first time I heard this CD, I was shocked...because I heard them make several references to Jesus (in a positive way) and then I wanted to dance...to Jesus music. That doesn't happen often! My two favorite songs on the album are "Alien" and "Holy Crunk". Lovin' it.

Mad Music Mondays (1.23.06)
To spice up the life of our blogs, Brooke and I have decided to start with a series of topics that make us smile, laugh, think, etc. Mad Music Mondays-this is the day that we get to talk about music that: we love, we won't take out of our CD players, we can't get out of our heads, or we think should never have been released to the public to begin with. Mad Music Mondays...and GO.
Carrie Underwood-Some Hearts
So, I am not a die hard country music fan like I was as a kid, but this CD is the one that has been in my CD player ever since Christmas. Lots of catchy tunes that you listen to once, and you already know the chorus by heart. And then, during MLK Jr. weekend, Jesus, Take the Wheel took on a whole new meaning (thank you, Brooke). And no, my favorite song is NOT Inside Your Heaven, whatever the heck that means. I don't even think I have a favorite song on the album. I DO NOT like "honky-tonk-my-wife-just-left-and-she-took-my-truck-bar-songs". Other than the song Before He Cheats (which is actually kinda funny) they are all pretty decent songs about growing up and moving on, and never forgetting where you came from.
So, why in the world am I listening to this CD a month later? I don't even know!! It's a nice little CD, and it's fun to sing along with, but that's really it...maybe I'll change it today...
