Tell All Tuesday 2.28.06

Today, I must tell that last night, I went to bed a happy girl. At approximately 10:44pm, Dr. Travis Stork told Moana that he could not choose her. At approximately 10:44:02pm, I threw my arms in the air and very quietly screamed a "YESSSSSS!". Not because Marty was sleeping, because he wasn't even home yet, and not because I was afraid the neighbors would call the cops, because, who cares, but because I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything Travis had to say! I then watched, along with the rest of the world, as Travis expressed his devotion to a commitment with Sarah, who oddly enough lives less than a mile from him in TN! I have never jumped up off my couch for a TV show or people that I have never met in my life. But there was something about that moment that absolutely made my night. And finally for only the 3rd time in all of Bachelor/Bachelorette history, was my choice given the final rose. Thanks for being so understanding as I reveal such a deep dark secret! :) I just had to get that off my chest.

A Good Day For TV

I must say that tonight is the night of TV I have been waiting for since last Monday. Tonight, the ongoing drama of 24 unfolds and Dr. Travis Stork gives out the final rose in a 2 hour season finale.

24-Tonight, the President of the United States must decide whether or not he will change the course of the motorcade that is taking the President of Russia, his wife, and the First Lady to the airport. Simple, right? NOTHING on 24 is simple! If the motorcade's course is changed, then a Russian terrorist will release nerve gas in heavily populated US cities. If he doesn't, the terrorist will blow up the entire motorcade, murdering the President and First Lady of Russia and the US First Lady. Dum...Dum...Dum.....

The Bachelor: Paris-From the beginning, I have liked Sarah from TN, and after we found out 2 weeks ago that she and Moana would be the final 2 bachelorettes, I liked her even more! Clearly, Moana is NOT the best choice, and knowing all three people involved very well, I think Sarah and Travis do make the best match! :) I just wish ABC hadn't fooled us in the Jesse Palmer season by letting the girl he chose to get out of the limo first. Because now, we never know if the first out is the one going home "broken hearted". It makes me so nervous that I can hardly stand it!!!!

The sad thing is that these 2 shows air simultaneously, and Marty has a meeting at school during 24. So, I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out if Jack Bauer saves the day again. But, I can find out tonight if Travis chooses the woman of his dreams, according to me! Hopefully, I won't go to bed angry!

Mad Music Monday 2.27.06

Music I heard today that made me smile: "That Thing You Do" (from "That Thing You Do" Soundtrack)

From the moment I first saw that movie, I loved it! I am all about watching a movie that revolves around fun music, be it a musical or not. This is definitely one of thos movies that makes you want to get up and dance....you know, with the moves straight out of American Bandstand-the 1952 edition. My favorite character from the movie is the drummer, Guy "Shades" Patterson played by Tom Everett Scott...he's soooo dreamy. :) This movie and soundtrack get MAJOR thumbs up from me. You-oo-oo...doing that thing you do-oo-oo...Breakin' my heart into a million pieces..Like you always do-oo-oo-oo. Too much fun!

Randomness

There are some random things floating through my head today and since I am at home by myself all day with no one to talk to, why not share them with the entire world!?!?

**Weight Loss-It's one of those things that just gets on my nerves sometimes. It get on my nerves even more when it doesn't go at all like I think it should. Since the Spring of 2003, I have been trying to get rid of the 492 meals I ate at Chik-fil-A over the course of 4 years. For a year, I wasn't really getting rid of it, but I wasn't gaining any weight either. Then, in the Spring of 2004, I got engaged, and if that won't make you lose weight, I don't know what will!! We were only engaged for 10 weeks, but somehow between the wedding planning and summer camps and all the other crazy summer trips that happened, I lost about 10 lbs. And it was a good thing too, because I had no time to get my dress altered! After we got married, I stayed the same weight for about 6 months, then I realized that the newlywed eating-out-because-we-don't-want-to-cook syndrome was having an effect on me. I had no money to join a gym or Curves or anything like that, so I went out and bought a Tae-Bo Cardio DVD. I thought what the heck. It's $15. I started with the Tae-Bo, and I was doing it religiously. I was so out of shape that I couldn't get past the warm-ups, but I was getting there! Then, I got the chicken pox. 3 weeks of feeling like I had the flu of all flus accompanied by itching and discomfort was not good for my die hard workouts. After the chicken pox had FINALLY gone away, it was really hard to get back into the routine....and until January of this year, weighing more than I had ever weighed before, I never got back into the routine. Isn't it funny how the month of January causes people to do crazy things? Well, my crazy thing was to lose weight (along with 90% of Americans). I started eating Special K with Red Berries for 2 meals a day with a meat & veggie filled meal at night. I'm still kinda on that plan...just branching out to other foods in place of cereal every once and a while. I only eat 1200-1300 calories a day. I do Tae-Bo Cardio 3 days a week(I am finally up to 30 minutes, and way past the warm ups now!) and stretching/sit ups/push ups, etc, 2 days a week. I had a week with no weight loss and a week where I gained 2 pounds-not good. BUT, I have been working hard for about 6 weeks and I've lost 6 pounds. I would like to lose 20 more (that would put me back down at what I was when I finished my freshman year in college, and also in the range for my healthy body weight) and if I can lose 1 pound a week, I'm happy with that. If I lose more, I am WAY happy with that-who wouldn't be! So, I will keep you posted on my progress, and let you know when I can get into those stinkin' cute shorts I bought at Old Navy (for $10 a pair even!) 2 years ago and haven't been able to wear comfortably.

**JoJo-For those of you who don't know, my brother, Joseph, is serving with the Army Reserves in Afghanistan. He left a year ago and after 2 months at Fort Bragg, he left for Afghanistan. So, he's less than 2 months away from coming home after a year of service overseas. Last Saturday I went to the Family Readiness Group (FRG) meeting with my mom (this is the support group for the families who have loved ones serving overseas with the 391st) and their focus was on Homecoming. I was only there for the last part of the meeting, but I got so excited that I couldn't hardly stand it! To think that, in mid-April, we will get to meet them at the Fort Bragg Airport makes me happy! The FRG is planning all kinds of things to show thank yous and support to these guys who have been serving our country. They haven't been on the front lines like people normally think about when they think "war". They are an engineering battalion and have been building roads for the Afghan people. They gathered clothes and toys from the states during the winter and gave them to the Afghan children. Those pictures were precious! They have done a lot of work since April, and they have all bonded with each other like we can't even imagine. But I know they are ready to come home, and I am ready for them to be here!

**American Idol-I will begin by saying that I did not vote for anyone on AI this week because I had to watch the day late TiVoed American Idol. I was confident that 3 of the contestants who left last night (Becky O'Donahue, Stevie Scott-what were they thinking? and that Copacobana dude) were really going to leave. Patrick Hall, I feel, should have been in the competition a little longer. I realize that he is a little older, but the vocal control he has is AMAZING(note the correct use of this word, Lo). The song he sang during Hollywood week was unbelievable. While his 1st night song choice wasn't the greatest, he's still really good, and it wouldn't surprise me if we see him again!
My next week picks to leave: Kinnik Sky, Heather Cox (or Brenna Gethers-girl has an attitude that has GOT TO GO...she reminds me TOO much of Mikayla Gordon, and I am not sure I can put up with that again, and she's not good!), Kevin Covais & Bucky Covington ( I am not sure that at the start of AI they ever thought they would sign anyone named "Bucky"...but he's not good, you can't understand a word he says or sings, and seriously, people are you kidding me?!?!?!)
It's still too early to choose the top 12, because anything can happen. However, it really wouldn't surprise me if Katharine McPhee or Chris Daughtry win this thing!

**We had a malfunctioning tub stopper for awhile and about a month ago Marty installed a new one (that's my little Mr. Fix-it!). I LOVE BATHS!! Bubbles...no bubbles...it doesn't matter to me. I am usually really cold, and sometimes a good hot bath is all that will get me warm from head to toe again. One thing I don't like is a cold shower. There were many times during Chrysalis weekends where Brooke and I would head down to the showers and have to very carefully wash our hair and body with ice cold (and friends, this is no exaggeration) water. It was water that was so cold that when I stuck my head under the stream I had to prepare myself because I knew I would lose my breath for at least 30 seconds. It was rough, but at least I was clean! And I guess it makes me appreciate working hot water heaters even more.

OK, that's all the randomness I feel like talking about today...so hope you enjoyed and have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Friend of the Week Friday 2.24.06

Friend of the Week: Holly Farmer (soon-to-be-Crider!)

Holly is a very dear friend of mine. We met at WCU during Holly's freshman year (my sophomore year). She was interested in joining SAI (the music fraternity I was already a member of) and after meeting her at a couple of the rush activities, I knew we would be good friends. Holly has such a bright personality, and it overflows onto everyone she comes into contact with. During Holly's pledge period, I got to be her guardian angel, the one who showered her with encouragement and gifts during the semester-long ordeal. I soon found out that she was a Christian, and I was able to encourage her with SAI and in her spiritual life. After she became a sister, our friendship continued to grow. We spent many nights after our weekly meetings chatting in the hallway. She was one of those people who seemed to understand my frustrations and my joys. We helped to see each other through some crazy times at WCU with boys and sisters and all the madness that comes along with college life. I was so glad to have her encouragement through my last 3 years at WCU.

After college, we lost touch for a while, but we did pick back up right where we left of through random IM chats. It seemed that while we were in the same place together in life all those years ago in college, we were still in similar places in life these days. It's that "I'm out in the real world and all those people I just spent every waking moment with for 4 years of my life and said we would always be friends are now moving on with life and where does that leave me?" stage. It's that time when we have to find ourselves. Find out who we really are-with or without them. And I am glad our friendship has grown during this "finding ourselves" process.

Holly is marrying the man of her dreams on June 17th of this year, and I couldn't be happier for her. There is nothing like finding and marrying the man you are called to be with for the rest of your life. I am so honored that she asked me to stand with her on her wedding day. I am blessed to be a part of the most amazing day of her life.

So, Holly, thanks for your constant encouragement, your kindness, for being you(and being ok with it even when everyone else doesn't agree), and for being my friend. I thank God for you and I love you, girl!

Things I Love Thursdays 2.23.06

Thing I Love: Bargains

Confession: I am a clearance rack shopper with the best of them. Chances are that if I'm wearing it, it was on sale, or someone gave it to me. And I'm not talking 25% off...that's for wimps. If it's not 50% off I usually won't buy it. I get it honest from my mom(who went to Greensboro for a conference a few years back and came back with over $1000 of clothes and only spent $300!!!). It's not that I'm cheap, I just think that if they can sell it to me at 50% off, then I can control myself long enough to wait until it's 50% off and then make a purchase. They aren't losing money, and I'm saving a bunch of it! Outlet/Factory stores/seasonal clearances are my favorite. All the stores want to do is get rid of stuff, and more times than not, it comes home with me. One of my all time favorite purchases was at Old Navy (shocker, I know). I was in Raleigh, I think, and I bought a cute little sundress-knee length, wide shoulder straps, cute pink flowers all over white background, it was WAY cute. It was regularly priced at $24.99. When I saw the big red sticker on the side, I imediately had to see if it's reduced price was worthy of my money...and yes it was. For $1.99 (yes, you read it right) that dress was mine. I almost wanted to by 10 of them because they were SO cheap. One tears, up, I'd have 9 more! Well, needless to say, this dress is still hanging in my closet, and I have more than gotten my money's worth out of it. I also love my $2.50 shorts from Kohl's and my $4 cableknit sweater & $7 khaki jacket from Aeropostale. Cheap clothes are fun!

Tell All Tuesday 2.21.06

One thing that not many people know about me is my experience with Greek life. When I was a freshman at WCU (Go Cats!) I received an invitation to a Phi Mu informational. I lived on the hall opposite the Phi Mu ladies, and had a few hallmates that were attending the informational as well. So, we all went, talked with the sisters for a while, met some potential members, just sat there looking pretty, and went back to our rooms for the night. I left with a feeling that I really might like to be a part of this organization. There were a lot of Christian girls involved, and that was something that interested me. Well, a few days later, I was in my room when I heard someone knocking on my door. When I opened it, I was greeted by two Phi Mu sisters who presented me with an envelope. I immediately ripped into it, and there it was...my bid. I took all appropriate actions to starting my pledge period with Phi Mu. I attended a little bid party and got lots of fun stuff...letters, notepads, pens, etc...and even sat down with the treasurer to discuss a monthly payment plan so that I could afford it! I was so excited. I spent the next month and a half becoming very close to my pledge sisters, and getting to know the sisters as well. It was nice to be known as someone who was almost a member of the classiest sorority on campus, and I loved every single minute of it.

Then one day, the Phi Mu president called me to come meet with her in the study. Not knowing what in the world was going on, I marched down to the Phi Mu hall, pledge notebook in tow. When I got there, my world changed. Jennifer, the president, told me, with tears in her eyes, that I was not going to be able to pledge Phi Mu anymore. There had been a mix up with another sorority on campus, which will remain nameless (I had gone to their informational as well. They even presented me with a bid, or so they said. I had even signed the bid, saying I accepted, or so they said. I do remember someone from that sorority coming to my door one night-I was VERY sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection and had just returned from the infirmary where I was given some major knock-you-out-for-72-hours-straight-medicines-but other than remembering seeing them at my door, I honest to goodness don't remember anything else about it.) I COULD NOT believe it. Not only was my pledge period being terminated, but Jennifer had the paperwork from Greek council from the other sorority...with my name on it...and my signature on it...and I didn't remember any of it. I WAS DEVASTATED.

That night, every single one of my pledge sisters came to my room to console me. It was awful, but they were so supportive. They even helped me try to get it all appealed. The only thing the Greek council would do was to terminate my current pledge period with Phi Mu, let my bid with the other sorority expire and I would be able to re-pledge Phi Mu again the next semester. But I didn't want to pledge again...I wanted to pledge now. Obviously, there was nothing anyone could do.

After a lot of prayer and consideration, I decided that the sorority life wasn't for me. The next semester, money was even tighter, and I wasn't able to afford to join. Instead, I, along with 2 other wonderful hallmates of mine, became Phi Mu affiliates:). We were constantly with the Phi Mu sisters. We went to dinner together, we went dancing together, we hung out almost every night together. We threw each other some stinkin' fun birthday parties and made signs for every occasion imaginable. It was great. I ended up making some lasting friendships with those sisters who had welcomed me in as one of their own. Sometimes I think that if there had been that "sister" title on our friendships, we wouldn't have become so close due to living in close quarters and having cat fights. So, I believe that it was a blessing in disguise (kinda like Spinach in Disguise, right Brooke!) when I didn't get to finish my pledge period. Like the saying goes, "When God closes a door, He opens a window." and I am so thankful for the window he opened.

My Greek life story doesn't end here though. I ended up pledging and becoming a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, professional women's music fraternity. There were about 20+ ladies in our chapter, and our main goal was to promote the love and appreciation for music by doing service projects, such as collecting sheet music for choirs in need, or raising money to provide a private school with musical instruments. We had such a great time, and it always felt so good to be able to help people. One of the great things about this organization was that the majority of sisters were music majors like me, so it was a really great support group. Don't get me wrong...it wasn't all roses (even though that was our flower)...we had our moments of DRAMA...but what do you expect when you put 20 women in a 20x20 room for 2 hours at a time every week!?!?! I gained a lot of knowledge from these ladies, and so many friendships that I know are everlasting.

Then of course, I can't forget Me Phi Me...when my time with Phi Mu ended, my best friend, Brooke, decided that she would start a sorority that I could be a part of. This has been quite the joke over the years...and especially when she made letters for me! We got a HUGE kick out of it...nobody else really got it, but we sure did enjoy struttin' around in our pink & black cuteness!! It kinda makes me laugh that 6 years later, it's still a topic of conversation almost everytime we get together! I'm so glad to be a founding member of this ever-growing organization!!! :)

JJ Redick (clap clap clap clap clap)

I just have to give a little shout out to my boy JJ Redick as he is now the all time high scorer in Duke Basketball history!!! He passed Johnny Dawkins (who is now an Assistant Coach at Duke and held the record for 20 years) last night in the Miami game. JJ's cute little parents were there to witness the event and their reaction was priceless. I love watching history being made. JJ will be GREATLY missed on the Coach K court next year...but before he graduates, I vote for a National Championship!!! Let's Go Devils!!!

Mad Music Monday 2.20.06

Music I like: Moulin Rouge Soundtrack

My friend Beth introduced me to Moulin Rouge several years ago, and I immediately fell in love with the music. I have always been a musical junkie. I don't know why, but the love story and the music just seemed to attach itself to my heart and I love it! My favorite song from the movie is "Come What May". It's a duet between Ewan McGregor's character and Nicole Kidman's character. For the entire movie, they have to hid their feelings from everyone and this song is their way of saying that they will always love each other, no matter what other people say or do to try and tear them apart.

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may weather and stars may collide
But I'll love you, I'll love you until the end of time

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you
Until my dying day

It's just one of those songs that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside :) and it's my song pick of the day!

Friend of the Week 2.17.06

Friend of the Week: Eli

Eli and I met in the Spring of 2002 when Marty took me to Williamsburg, VA for Spring Break. I was told we were going to stay with his college roommate, and best friend, Aaron, and Aaron's wife Eli (short for Elizabeth, which is one of the neatest names I know). I had never met these people before, and there I was...8 hours from home....with my boyfriend of 3 months...and some people that I didn't know. I was a little apprehensive, to say the least. Little did I know, that short trip to VA would prove to hold the beginning of one of my most treasured friendships. I soon found out that Eli and I are very similar in likes and dislikes...we had lots of "me too" moments when we relived past experiences...and not many other people in the world understand organization like she does! Eli's interest in every little thing that I am involved in, or ever was involved in, or ever will be involved in, shows me that she really does care. And I know that when I tell her about something in my life, she will remember it. And if it's sensitive material, she won't repeat it. She's good like that! :) I love that at least once a week, we get to have hour long chats on the phone, and everytime, we pick up right where we left off.

In addition to being Aaron's wife, she is also the mother of sweet little 2 year old, Bella. Through Eli, Bella is learning to be a wonderful person. I know she's only 2, but you wouldn't believe the personality this kid has! The values Aaron & Eli are imparting to Bella (and Bella's little sister who is expected to arrive in the beginning of May) are some that I definitely want to use when teaching my own children someday. The parenting skills these two have is far beyond their years, and I love learning from them.

We are SOOO blessed to have these guys as our "family". Thank you, Eli, for being such an encouragement, a sounding board, my idea girl, and one of the most amazing friends I could have ever asked for. I love you! Posted by Picasa

Sounds fun

I read about this thing on my friend JoAnna's blog and thought that since I am finished with my work for the day, I would give it a shot. So, enjoy!

Four jobs I've had:
1. In HS and my first 2 years of college, I worked as your friendlyneighborhoodd Ingle's grocery cashier. It's sad that to this day, I still know the UPC for bananas...it's 4011 by the way.
2. For my internship (for my music industry degree) I had the amazing opportunity to work with some WAY cool cats in Franklin, TN.
3. After college I worked at the wonderful Fairview Elementary in my hometown as a reading tutor. Yes, I, who never wanted to be a teacher and had absolutely NO training whatsoever, tried to teach the children how to read. Not the best 4 months of my life, but I did get to see Lori everyday!!
4. According to the sequence of this list, it would be time for me to tell you about working at LifeWay Christian Stores in Asheville...but I am very glad not to be working there anymore, and I will now inform you of a much more fun job that I have: Organization Specialist. This means that I get to go into people's homes (people who hire me of course!), tell them that they have a bunch of junk, and make them get rid of all the stuff that is cluttering up their home. It's a fun time, and it helps me express my anal-retentiveness.

Four movies I can watch over and over
1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
2. How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days
3. The Wedding Planner
4. Moulin Rouge

Four places I've lived:
1. Balsam, NC (population 26...well maybe more than that, but not by much!) Home of the beautiful Balsam Mountain Inn.
2. Sylva, NC-Small town about 5 miles from where I went to college. It's where my mom still lives, and what I call my hometown.
3. Franklin, TN-I lived off of Cool Springs Blvd. for 3 months while doing my internship. It was VERY cool to be so close to shopping, more shopping, good eats and of course, Nashville!
4. Mars Hill, NC-Mars Hill is the name of the town and the name of the college that's in it (that's where Marty works!). We are about 25 minutes from Asheville, and it's nice to live out of the city, but still close enough to make the trip every day if we need to. Other than college things, the new Waffle House and the Hardees in the gas station, there isn't much to see here!

Things I Love Thursdays 2.16.06

Thing I Love: Singing in 3-part harmony.

I am part of a praise team at church (we meet once a week to practice songs and then help lead in worship on select Sundays). We have been working on a group of songs from the Ross Parsley CD. The songs are beautiful and a lot of the songs contain 3-part harmony. Well, last night Carmen, Kerry, Kelly & I were practicing this one song ("Amazed"-refer to Monday of this week) and it was absoutely beautiful. With the parts and the expression and the blending of our voices...it was really nice. I was part of 2 choir ensembles in college and missed singing with groups of people in that type of setting. So, I am really excited to be a part of this lovely group of ladies who have come to mean a lot to me.

The Snow

Here's a picture taken from the front deck of our house about 10am on Sunday...and it looked like this (except it got deeper over time) for the next 24 hours. BEAUTIFUL!! Posted by Picasa

In Love

I must admit that I am in love-in love with someone more perfect for me than I could have ever dreamed up myself. Thankfully, God knew EXACTLY what I needed and then orchestrated so many perfect events that would lead us to meet...date...get engaged...marry...get to today.

One of my favorite things that Marty does is create little surprises. He creates big surprises too, but the little ones are usually the ones that make my heart melt. This morning, for instance, I woke up a little later than he did, which was normal. He went to take a shower, which was normal. I picked up the laptop to check my e-mail, which was normal...but what wasn't normal was that there was an envelope labeled "Sarai" inside the laptop. I immediately ripped into it, and found the perfect Valentine's Day card. It said "If I were any more in love with you...I'd have to wear a warning label". Then there was a sweet little handwritten message, just for me from my "love". We had given each other a couple of DVDs for Valentine's Day (he got Batman Begins and I got The Wedding Date-which I still haven't seen, but am VERY excited about), and even last night I mentioned to him that I hadn't even been able to make it to the store to pick up a card for Valentine's Day...but he had. And it made my day. I never thought that I would be the one who would get to share forever with him, but I sure am glad that I do.

I love my "love".

I have never broken a bone(this is where you all should knock on wood). I'm talking not even broken a couple of toes by running into a wall. NEVER. Sometimes I think If I were to ever break something what would I want it to be? as I am sure that it is bound to happen sooner or later. It's then I realize that I like being able to walk, so scratch the hips, legs and feet. I use my arms too much to be without them, and go ahead and scratch fingers and wrists too. I like my nose the way it is, and a broken nose is most likely going to result in a humped nose. And I certainly don't want to have any breaks in my back-first of all, OUCH and secondly, there is too much risk involved with that. I am kinda scared to reveal this, as I am sure the broken bone fairies will now attack me full force.

Finally...

...IT SNOWED!!! And this time, it was a REAL snow with REAL accumulations and insurpassable roads. The warning came on Thursday that snow was definitely in the forecast for the weekend. So, on Saturday morning I woke up expecting inches of snow...instead we had about a half and inch. By mid-day it was all gone. This girl was NOT happy. Don't tell me to expect a blizzard if I'm only going to get a half an inch. About noon on Saturday, I looked out and all of a sudden, the clouds opened up and the snow was released!!! It was absolutely beautiful! It snowed pretty much the rest of the day and by nightfall, the ground was covered, the roads were starting to get covered and the inches (yes, I am finally able to write inches) started stacking up! WOOHOO!! After the snow fell all day Sunday, we ended up with about 6-7 inches. Of course the sun came out for part of the day and we lost some of it. But, it's Monday morning, the roads are still snowy, there is a beautiful white blanket all around, all the schools are closed and at it is STILL snowing!! I LOVE IT!!! Marty and I went driving around the community yesterday afternoon to check out the conditions, and they were trecherous in places. While I haven't been out to play in it, our neighrhood famlies have. My favorite part was when they all went up on the bank behind our house and started sledding. All I could hear was the sweet sounds of little children screaming for joy as they took turns sledding down that huge hill. What a beautiful weekend!

(There are supposed to be some pictures here, but for some reason they don't want to be uploaded onto my blog...so check back later for some pictures of the winter wonderland!)

Music I'm Diggin': "Amazed" by Ross Parsley

I was introduced to this song by our worship pastor at church. When I really think about the way God loves me, I am reminded of how I love other people. It's incredible to think that as much as I can love someone...my husband, my family, my friends...God loves me sooooo much more than that. The lyrics focus on the things that God is constantly doing to prove His love for us (dancing around us, singing over ue) and yet we go about daily lives as if it never happens. Once I stop and think about the wonder of His love, it really makes me think...and I AM amazed at the love He has for me.

"Amazed"

You dance over me
While I am unaware
You sing all around
But I never hear the sound

Lord, I'm amazed by You
Lord, I'm amazed by You
Lord, I'm amazed by You
How You love me

How wide
How deep
How great
Is Your love for me

Friend of the Week Friday 2.10.06

FriendS of the week: Brooke & Lori

These 2 friends made my day yesterday. We got together for dinner last night, and as always, it was SUPER fun. Lori came bearing gifts of Diet Coke (4 DIFFERENT kinds even...DC w/ Splenda, regular DC, Black Cherry Vanilla DC and Caffeine Free DC!!!) and Brooke came bearing gifts of STINKIN' cute grosgrain ribbon. WHAT FUN!!!!

Lori & I go WAAAAAAAY back to the days I used to sing Reba songs at the camp talent shows...EVERY summer from age 8-14...complete with overall shorts and pigtails. Over the years, God has grown our friendship and seen us both through some VERY trying times. Now, I not only get to call her "friend", but sister (she's actually my sister-in-law (Marty's sister), but there is no room for the in-law portion in our friendship!). She shares in my love for organization and anal-retentiveness. I LOVE YOU, LO!!!!

Brooke & I met at WCU. We were hallmates in the wonderful Scott dorm. We never would have guessed that a chance meeting in the hall kitchen would prove to hold such a beautiful friendship. God has brought us so close over the past few years, and has allowed us to share in some absolutely amazing God moments together. She and I share a bond through all things cute...bags, stationery, shoes, and of course writing things with the utmost cuteness! I LOVE YOU, FRIEND!!!!

I love that God finally brought the 3 of us together so that we can share in all kinds of laughter and fun. You both rock my face off!!!!

Things I Love Thursdays 2.9.06

Thing I Love: DUKE BASKETBALL!!!!

After Duke's win over Carolina on Tuesday night, it is only appropriate to express my undying devotion to them. I have been a Duke fan since I was 7 or so. Then, when God blessed me with a husband who was not only a huge Duke fan, but also a Duke grad, I knew that Duke Basketball would forever be a love of ours. After the Christmas surprise to see the Devils play in Cameron, I was COMPLETELY hooked. From the cheers to the atmosphere to the beauty of Cameron Indoor to JJ & the boys (not to discredit the rest of the team, as I do love them all)...Duke Baskteball rocks my face right off!!! GO DEVILS! :)

Addiction

Today while I was out and about, I remembered that we were out of Diet Coke with Splenda (which, by the way, is my absolute drink of choice). So, I thought to myself "I'll go by CVS. They are having a sale-2-12 packs for $5. Awesome!" I went into CVS and there were NO cases of Diet Coke with Splenda. Sadness. Well, CVS just so happens to be next door to Ingle's. BINGO!! I went into Ingle's, found the soft drink aisle, found the "Coca Cola" section...and what do I see before my very eyes but every single kind of Diet Coke EXCEPT for the one I want!!! Diet Coke with Lime...Cherry Diet Coke...Black Cherry Vanilla Diet Coke...even regular Diet Coke...but none with Splenda. I really thought about sticking my arm on one of the shelves and running full force forward and hopefully knocking every single non-Diet Coke with Splenda drink into the floor. Maybe I really am an addict.

Tell All Tuesday 2.7.06

I didn't have chicken pox until March 2005...no, that's not a typo and yes, you read it right. I never had chicken pox as a child (you know, like normal people). I was forced to play with/eat after/drink after my cousins when they had them. Even when my brother had a small case of them, I tried to get it from him...no luck. There for a while, I thought I might be immune to them...until one day...
It was a busy Tuesday morning, and I was rushing to get things done around the house and getting ready to go to Asheville for some shopping and then to meet up with my sister-in-law to eat dinner. I went in the bathroom to get in the shower, and I noticed that I had several little red dots on my stomach...then I turned around to check out my back, where there were more little red dots. My immediate reaction was to pick up the phone and call my mom (isn't it funny how even when you're grown and married, you still have to call mom to have her fix things?!?!). I asked her what chicken pox looked like, and all she could tell me was that it had been so long since she had them, and my brother had so little spots when he had them, that she didn't really know. So, I called Marty, and his advice was to google for pictures of the chicken pox and compare. Well, let me just say that when you google for pictures of people of the chicken pox, you will see that they have found the very worst cases EVER to put on there. So immediately, I start FREAKING out. (You should try to search for it sometime...even if you don't have the chicken pox, you'll probably freak out too!!!) I had to cancel the day's plans and rearrange my schedule for the next week so that I could do nothing but sit on the couch and watch the little red spots form. What fun. My case wasn't TOO bad. I only ended up with about 200 spots (which I know is a lot, but none of them were touching like the pics on google...those people had to have had thousands of spots...I'll take 200.). When I think back on having the chicken pox, I don't really remember the itching. I remember feeling like I had the worst flu of my life. I have never felt so groggy and had so many weak muscle and not been able to walk to the bathroom without losing my breath. The worst part was this: you can only watch TV for so long without it getting on your last nerve. I hate just sitting around doing nothing (and ps...we had just moved into our new house a few weeks before and there were still boxes sitting everywhere...that I couldn't unpack...because I had the chicken pox....right before my 24th birthday). I was so bored...and people couldn't come to see me (except for Brooke & Katrina who are school teachers and are around chicken pox a lot!!). I ended up being contagious for TWO AND A HALF WEEKS!!!! That is a LONG time to sit around and do nothing...and not be able to leave the house...and not be able to see many people. AND it was starting to become spring-like outside, so I couldn't even go out to enjoy it for fear that the sun might pop a chicken pox spot and I would have yet another scar!!
There is some speculation as to how I actually got the chicken pox to begin with. Marty had this crazy rash and the question was (by us and the doctor) "Is is shingles or not?" So, if it was in fact shingles, then I would say I got it from him. If it wasn't shingles...who knows?!?! All I know is that I would GLADLY have that experience (as not fun as it was) at 23 years old, than have that experience a few years later when I have 1 or 2 children who also have the chicken pox and have to take care of them and me...all with this chicken pox.

Music I can't get out of my head: No One Mourns the Wicked (from the Wicked soundtrack)

I've never read the book, never seen the musical, and until a week or so ago had never listened to the soundtrack. Now, it's on repeat in my car. The first song on the album is this song that I can't get out of my head...and not only can I not get it out of my head, I don't know all the words. "No one mourns the wicked...no one cries they won't return...no one lays a lilly on their grave"...and that's all I know...of a 4 minute song. I am going to see the musical in Atlanta in May (with two of my stinkin' awesome friends :) ) and I have until then to know all the words and read the book. (P.S. Wicked is the Wizard of Oz story as the Wicked Witch of the West's story...sneaky twist and super fun!)

The Snow That Wasn't Really Snow

It snowed last night. Oh, don't get excited for me...I hardly think that .1 centimeters REALLY equals 4-6 inches. I don't know how weathermen/women still get to keep their jobs when they are wrong sooo many times. Yeah, the roads were white this morning, and so was the front porch. But, it's not a "real" snow until I can't see ANY grass, and roads are insurpassable and I just have to stay home...this morning, the grass was in plain view, we didn't have to put the truck in 4WD to go to church, and yes, we left the house. PS...NOT A REAL SNOW! Someday, friends...someday...

Friend of the Week Friday 2.3.06

Friend of the Week: My mom (awwww)

My mom has been my friend of the week for 24 (almost 25) years. This week, however, she is my friend of the week because of the new fun craft she taught me: crocheting!!! Growing up, I saw her do a lot of crocheting (so much that she ended up having to have Carpel Tunnel surgery on BOTH wrists because of it). Well, I am the type of person who can' just sit in front of the TV for extended periods of time (and that means more than 10 minutes...maybe it's ADD...). I have TOO many things to do in my life to just sit there. Seriously! So, my mom passed along the crocheting tradition. Now, I can sit on the couch and watch TV and crochet at the same time. I LOVE IT! I have found some stinkin' cute yarn, and have made a few scarfs that are also stinkin' cute. So, thanks, Mom, for introducing me to this wonderful new habit!! I LOVE YOU!!!

Things I Love Thursday 2.2.06

Thing I Love: The Breakfast of Champions

No, friends, I am not referring to Wheaties. I am talking about it MY breakfast of champions: Chocolate Fudge Pop-Tarts and a big ol' Diet Coke. At 400+calories and 10+ grans of fat, it's certainly not the most healthy breakfast of all, but somedays it is all that will do. The Pop-Tarts have to be warmed in the microwave for the maximum chewiness, and the Diet Coke is best in a can straight from an ice cold fridge. Not much else gets my day started quite like this tasty treat! :)

Sarai needs...

So Brooke passed this crazy idea along to me, and I thought that I might as well try it. I went to google and typed "Sarai needs" in the search box and here's what I found...

"Sarai needs help knowing what it means to be a wife"-Having only been married for a year and a half, this is true, friends. It's a never-ending learning experience, this wife thing.

"Sarai needs to work towards a ratio of fifty to sixty percent discussion/commentaryto allay the anxieties/insecurities of those bedazzled by big names"-THIS MAKES ME LAUGH!!! WHAT?!?!?!

"What Sarai needs to do is go back to whateva she was doing before she made this album"-This is in reference to the rapper girl Sarai (who by the way was born after me and TOTALLY stole the spelling of my name...I WAS FIRST!) and I hope that if I ever made an album that no one would say this about me!

"Sarai needs prayer that my relationship with Jesus Christ will grow stronger then it ever has been."-This is a site about a soldier serving in Iraq with the Army, and while that's not me, WOW is this not always the cry of my heart!

So, I guess google knows more about me than I thought! Try it out with your name, and see what Google knows about you!

Happy Wednesday!
